Institutions

Sourcing healthy, local products.

The OKC Food Hub is working hard to make it easier for your institution or organization to source healthy, local products.  We work to incubate and aggregate small-midsize farmers from across the state to get the products you are looking for delivered to you at a price you can afford.

Making it Easier to Source Local

Thanks to the Local Food Purchasing Agreement, we have been working closely with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma (as well as the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma) to source thousands of pounds of fresh produce on a weekly basis.  This great program will be available as funding allows and with any luck continuously if it is integrated into the coming Farm Bill.  Learn more about our state program here and view the preliminary impacts of this program through this excellent report by the Wallace Center.

Working with Tribes

We have loved working with various tribes in Oklahoma to provide local products for box programs, provide fresh wholesale produce deliveries and/or to collaborate on food sovereignty projects or initiatives.  If you have a collaboration you’d like to explore, please reach out and see how we can work together.

Why Buy Local?

When large institutions commit even a small percentage of their food purchasing dollars to buying local on a consistent, weekly basis, they are making a huge impact on local farmers abilities to grow and thrive.  The OKC Food Hub allows you a simple way to invest in your local food economy by creating an online account with year-round, weekly delivery for local produce.  You can see exactly who grew which items with producer information sheets to highlight your local purchases, and choose which growing practices you’d like invest in.  Not only are you making a huge impact when you buy local, but you’re also receiving better tasting food, a healthier environment, and more nutrition in every bite.
